Kaede Wildschut (Associate in the corporate, mergers and acquisitions team) and Amber von Steiger (Senior Associate) will present ‘BEE in 2018: Things to know about Black ownership, BEE requirements in public procurement, and the proposed amendments to the BEE Codes.’ There have been a number of recent developments in BEE – both practical and legislative. This presentation will focus on Black ownership and understanding how fronting can occur within ownership structures. The presentation will also consider recent developments in the implementation of BEE requirements in the public procurement space, and discuss key proposed amendments to the BEE Codes.
Georg Kahle (Director – Corporate) and Stephen Kennedy-Good (Director – Corporate) will unpack the long-awaited South African Companies Amendment Bill which has been published for comment. This is the first time that substantive changes to the South African Companies Act, which became law in 2011, have been proposed and comments may be submitted to the SA Department of Trade and Industry by 20 November 2018. Business owners are encouraged to consider the changes and how they would impact their business, and to provide feedback to the Department.
