Edwyn has been with Bryte (formerly Zurich South Africa) for just over 5 years and during this period he has been able to restore broker confidence in the brand and develop alternative distribution partnerships which include bancassurance, affinity and retail partnerships. Since 2012 he has held the position of CEO, overseeing the development and implementation of the turnaround strategy which was initiated in 2014 and which has delivered the desired results.
As Managing Executive of Barclays Africa – GI Bancassurance (ABSA INSURANCE COMPANY “AIC”), Edwyn was responsible for the 3 general insurance licenses at Absa Insurance – Absa Insurance Company, Absa idirect and AIRMS.
In his previous position within the company as Chief Financial Officer, Edwyn was responsible for driving strategy through the business units and for implementing processes and structure to ensure that finance aligns with world-class benchmarks. A key success was the systems alignment and the implementation of SAP. In addition to the CFO role, he was appointed to head the Chief Operating Officer position for AFS on 1 July 2008. The portfolio included all Projects and Change aspects, Risk Management including management assurance and compliance and the Legal department.
He Chaired the Change Council for AFS and was responsible for projects and programmes to implement systems and technologies to replace back office core systems across AFS.
As Chief Financial Officer of Barclays Africa, Edwyn was responsible for all Finance activities in the Portfolio of 9 Barclays Africa Countries and 3 ABSA Africa Countries, and as a Board Member on the Mozambique, Mauritius, Ghana and Zimbabwe Boards.
Edwyn was instrumental in improving the Governance and Structures within Barclays by introducing Processes within the Group Audit and Compliance Committee.
He was also involved in the due Diligences and Acquisitions of a Bank in Uganda identifying opportunities improving the overall performance of the portfolio.
